DESCRIPTIONWithin the Department of Medicine at UCSD, the Center on Gender Equity and Health (GEH) focuses on conducting collaborative, action-oriented research to understand and advance gender equity. GEH is a collective of researchers, policy specialists, and development experts, and our strategy focuses on four areas: equitable social norms and agency; health and reproductive rights; dignity and respect; and economic inclusion and opportunity. Our research is supported by a diverse portfolio of public and private funders, conducted in conjunction with international NGOs, and includes engagement with local and national governments.
The incumbent will manage complex research and partnerships including managing a family planning MLE consortium with partners in Africa and South Asia. The incumbent will provide support to improve the availability, quality, and consistency of family planning monitoring data being used across a set of program and evaluation partners. The Consortium will build partnerships to use improved monitoring data and other data sets to generate new analysis, research, and insights to inform policy, investment, and programming.
The role will involve liaising with project sponsors, and supervising technical staff. In partnership with the project PIs, the incumbent will directly lead the project workstreams focused on monitoring, evaluation, research, and learning (MERL).
This role will provide oversight to other staff and consultant activities, develop project materials, represent the project internally and externally, and review and provide input on project materials, as needed. Incumbent will participate in strategic planning for grant-making, program evaluation, and research strategies.
This role will also work with the program team to formulate short- and long-term strategies, and will lead proposal development efforts.
Incumbent will apply extensive knowledge as a research professional with an in-depth understanding of family planning program measurement, international development, monitoring, evaluation and learning to support research and implementation projects of broad scope and complexity.
Independently oversees a moderately sized academic or research program and represents the program to outside organizations. Oversees all administrative operations, finance, human resources and facilities for program. Designs and develops major program components, and administers the full range of the program's operational requirements. Works with faculty on formulating short-term planning and procedures. Develops and organizes conferences and other public forums. Works under direction of Principal Investigator to establish center agenda, funding, objectives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSDoctorate in related area and / or equivalent experience training. Five (5) or more years of relevant experience.
Academic background and experience in selected area of research. Background and experience in family planning program measurement.
Advanced knowledge of administrative, budgetary, human resources and financial principles and practices.
Advanced oral and written communication skills.
Advanced ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced analytical skills.
Advanced interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups to achieve results.
Advanced ability to work collaboratively with internal and external peers and managers.
Highly skilled fundraising experience.
- Ten (10) or more years of relevant experience preferred.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $104,900 - $198,900 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $50.24 - $95.26
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
