Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership
  • Provide leadership in the design, development, strategy, implementation, and assessment of goals, objectives, and activities related to the division of academic affairs and student services.
  • Successful experience leading and executing strategic planning; substantive and decisive evaluation of academic programs, learning outcomes, assessment methodologies, and developing new and innovative academic programs.
  • Participate as an active colleague and supportive peer member of the College’s executive committee; provide the leadership, vision, and administrative management for academic and student services through SLCC’s Everyday Excellence.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills and a transparent approach to leadership -the ability to work effectively with multiple constituencies, including faculty, staff, students, boards, alumni, donors, and community partners.
  • Represent the Chancellor for the academic affairs and student services functions of the campus, as well as serve as the Chancellor’s designated person for student complaints and grievances.
  • Provide leadership in hiring, developing, and promoting excellent faculty and staff who are committed to the college’s pillars of: student success, people, sustainability, and community. Provide documented evidence of individualized professional growth and development for employees within the divisions.
  • Recommend to the Chancellor and executive committee new/revised college initiatives and increased student success measures through strategic enrollment management, and retention and completion.

Programmatic
  • Provides leadership in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the College Blueprint.
  • Collaborates with the Vice Chancellor for Workforce and Economic Development to create and maintain pathways between non-credit and credit instruction.
  • Collaborates with the Vice Chancellor for Workforce and Economic Development to integrate programs that satisfy expanding and future labor force needs, which includes “crosswalks” of transfer to non-transfer.

Institutional Effectiveness, Compliance, and Operations
  • Formulate and interpret policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with applicable program, local, State, and Federal laws, and established criteria, along with ensuring student success.
  • Negotiate and manage contracts in the best interest of SLCC, its students, and employees with external parties as necessary.
  • Provide overall direction in facilitating college-wide councils and task forces to ensure student success. Act as representative of the institution to current and prospective partners to assess needs and develop appropriate programs. Act as the primary liaison to Faculty Senate.
  • Demonstrate commitment to collaborative decision-making, results-based management, continuous improvement, and student/customer service in an environment conducive to teamwork and mutual support. Works with college administration to promote a student-oriented culture that ensures access, sustains educational excellence, fosters student development, and supports high levels of student achievement.
  • Responsible for the design, execution, and effectiveness of a system of internal controls which provides reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient and that assets are safeguarded and used optimally.
  • Provide overall management of operating budgets and grants for both divisions; control and approve expenditures as required; maximize the identification and pursuit of alternative funding sources including building this expectation into dean and director positions.
  • Display curiosity in acquiring data that may serve as the basis for college improvement not limited to trend analysis, interactions with local, state, and national companies and organizations, and continuous review of best business and education practices.
  • Assure all accreditation, Board of Regents, LCTCS, SACSCOC, State, Federal, and other relevant party criterion concerning policies, process, and operations with academic affairs and student services are strictly followed.

External & Business Relations
  • Serves on appropriate external boards, task forces, and committees.
  • Works as appropriate with LCTCS committees, task forces, and initiatives.
  • Collaborates with K-12 partners, particularly secondary institutions, to create relevant dual enrollment pathways.
  • Assists the Chancellor in cultivating and maintaining existing partnerships.

Performs designated duties for the Chancellor in his/her absence. Predictable and reliable attendance is required to provide consistency and continuity of educational and business services.

Required Education:

  • Advanced degree from a regionally accredited institution in social sciences, educational evaluation, or related field. Master's degree required.

Required Experience:

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
  • Experience in higher education in the field of institutional research, planning, student learning outcomes, and assessment.
  • Fluent knowledge of requirements of regional accrediting agencies regarding assessment of student learning outcomes (SACS, COE).
  • Strong computer and quantitative skills, including statistical software for data analysis and extraction.
  • Excellent organizational and presentation skills, as well as written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good judgment, discretion, and ability to maintain confidentiality.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Must be able to demonstrate the proven abilities of intellectual reasoning, power of persuasion, and consistent dedication to the position.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical interference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability: High Skills: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. The ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills: Knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word). Ability to learn to operate College-specific software and applications.

Other Qualifications: Ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with a demonstrated ability to multi-task.

  • Criminal Background Clearance.
